Guy Hamilton Putnam Jr. (31 May 1918 – 14 July 2021) was an American centenarian who believed to be the last American Veteran of the Spanish Civil War at the time of his death.


Guy Putnam Jr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland, USA on 31 May 1918. His parents were Guy Putman Sr. and Mary (née Ford) Putman.

Putnam Jr. was in the Boy Scouts as a child. He enlisted in the Navy when he graduated St. Michaels high school in 1935. After enlisting in 1935, he was sent to help evacuate American refugees from Spain. He became a career Navy Officer serving in the United States during World War II. After the Navy, he received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the Norfolk Division of the College of William & Mary, now known as Old Dominion University.

He married Dorothy Bragg and had one son Guy H. Putman III (born 8 September 1950). He retired not only from the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander but also from SunTrust Bank as a comptroller.

At age 100, he still driving. He coached seniors to dance and danced himself several times a week until COVID-19 pandemic curtailed activities in early 2020.

Guy Putnam Jr. died in Norfolk, Virginia, USA on 14 July 2021 at the age of 103 years, 44 days.
