Halil Sarajlic [Bosnian; Halil Sarajlić] (2 March 1914 – 2 February 2019) was a Bosnian centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the time of his death.
Biography[]
Halil Sarajlic was born in the municipality of Srebrenik, Tuzla Canton, Austria-Hungary, present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina on 2 March 1914 as the middle of a total of ten children. He outlived all his brothers and sisters.
The household functioned in such a way that each member of the family had and performed their duties. Childrenldren kept cattle in the fields and forests, and the elders dug, plowed, rubbed grain and tied wheat with horses. As a child, Sarajlic had to do all the above jobs.
He did not go to school, and life was very difficult. Parents and children were more hungry than full, and a better lunch in this 12-member family could hardly be afforded for Eid (Muslim religious holiday).
He became the oldest known living man in Bosnia and Herzegovina, following the death of 108-year-old Dragoljub Galic on 26 August 2018.
Sarajlic died in the village Babunovici near Srebrenik, Tuzla Canton, Bosnia and Herzegovina on 2 February 2019, at the age of 104 years, 354 days. Following his death, then 104-year-old Anto Kovac became the oldest known living man in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
