Hatsuno Tanaka [Japanese: 田中初野] (20 May 1899 – 29 March 2011) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Hatsuno Tanaka was born in Yanagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan on 20 May 1899. In her last years, she lived in a nursing home in Kamimachi, Yanagawa. Following the death of 112-year-old Tome Yoshida in February 2010, she became the oldest living person in Fukuoka Prefecture.

In September 2010, Tanaka received the visit of the mayor of Yanagawa. At the time, she was still able to walk if supported by someone, and still helped the nursing home staff to fold aprons and towels. Her son Yasuhei Tanaka [Japanese: 田中保平] said about the secret of her longevity: "My mother doesn't angry and laughs a lot. Also, she kept on doing radio calisthenics every day until the age of 100."

Hatsuno Tanaka died in Yanagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan on 29 March 2011, at the age of 111 years, 313 days. At the time of her death, she was one of the oldest living people in Japan. She was also one of the last surviving Japanese people born in the 1800s and the 19th century.
