Haya Kurogi [Japanese: 黒木ハヤ] (10 January 1897 – 2 February 2008) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Haya Kurogi was born in Japan on 10 January 1897. She worked as a seller.

For her 100th birthday in 1997, Kurogi was visited by the mayor of Hyuga Yoshiyasu Akagi [Japanese: 赤木欣康], and a cherry tree was planted in the city. At that time, she was living in Himawari dormitory. Since February 2003, she was reported as the oldest living person in Hyuga.

Kurogi's age was verified by Japan's MHLW, Hamish Todd and Ken Matsuoka, and validated by the GRG on 14 August 2007.

Haya Kurogi died in Hyuga, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan on 2 February 2008 at the age of 111 years, 23 days. At the time of her death, she was the second-oldest living person in Miyazaki Prefecture after Tomoji Tanabe.
