Hedwig Hosig-Huggler (12 August 1903 – 31 May 2014) was a Swiss supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2021. She was the oldest known person in Switzerland when she died.
Biography
Hedwig Huggler was born on 12 August 1903 in Bern, Switzerland. After school, she went to work in England and lived there in a family. When she returned she moved again with her older sister to Madrid, Spain. At the age of 26 she met her future husband. They lived in Spain with their 3 children until after the war when they moved back to Switzerland. She opened a draper's shop in Wabern, Bern. At the age of 100 she still lived in her own home in Bern.
She became the oldest person in Switzerland upon the death of Louise Mafli on 6 March 2012.
Hosig-Huggler died on 31 May 2014 in Bern, Switzerland at the age of 110 years, 292 days. Her successor as Switzerland’s oldest person was Alice Roffler-Waldmeier (1904–2015).
