Helen Schulein (née Shane; 22 August 1904 – 23 June 2015) was an American supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2024.
Biography[]
Helen Schulein was born in Warsaw, Indiana, USA on 22 August 1904. Her parents were Silas Shane and Rae (née Baum) Shane. She had one brother Malcolm Henry Shane who died in 2001 at the age of 96.
She attended Milwaukee Downes Finishing School and then graduated from Ohio State University. She taught all elementary grades in a one room school house until she met her future husband, Victor Miller Schulein from St. Louis, Missouri. They were married on 11 October 1929 in Franklin, Ohio. The couple had one daughter Joyce Dannheisser (born 1932). Her husband died on 29 December 1997 at the age of 99.
She moved to Pensacola to be with her daughter, Joyce Dannheisser and son-in-law, Dr. Bert Dannheisser and moved to Azalea Trace Retirement Community in February 1998.
Helen Schulein died in Pensacola, Florida, USA on 23 June 2015 (22 June according to obituary) at the age of 110 years, 304 days. She is survived by one daughter Joyce Dannheisser, one son-in-law Dr. Bert Dannheisser, three grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild Indie.
