Helvi Mpingana Kondombolo, known as Kuku GwaKondo (3 March 1898 – 26 November 2008) was a Namibian supercentenarian and the mother of Namibian founding president Sam Nujoma. At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living person in Namibia as well as the oldest known person ever from Namibia. Her age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography

Helvi Mpingana Kondombolo claimed to have been born in German South West Africa (present-day Namibia) on 3 March 1898.

She was a member of the Uukwambi dynasty of the Ovambo people and stems from Etunda. In December 1927 she was baptised and married to Daniel Uutoni Nujoma. They had 11 children of which Sam Nujoma was the first-born.

In March 2008, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became the first known Namibian supercentenarian.

Mpingana Kondombolo died in Ongwediva, Namibia on 26 November 2008 at the age of 110 years, 268 days. Her state funeral was attended by president Hifikepunye Pohamba of Namibia, former president Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia, and many other high-ranking politicians.
