Henri Alexandre Perignon [French: Pérignon] (14 October 1879 – 18 June 1990) was a validated French supercentenarian. He was the world's oldest living man for just eight days.
Biography
Perignon was born in a town called Sèvres in the French department Hauts-de-Seine. His parents were Henri Joseph, a journalist, and Victorine (née Tondu) Perignon, a seamstress. On 16 January 1904, he married in Boulogne. His job included being a laundryman as well as being a chauffeur (most notably for the prominent French general Hubert Lyautey). Henri became blind in one eye because of the dangers of this occupation. In 1982, when he was 102 years old, the Caen University Hospital implanted a pacemaker that could facilitate breathing while engaging in physical activities such as riding a bicycle. In 1989, he had a 95-year old nephew named Marcel.
Perignon became the oldest living man in the world after the death of 112-year-old John Evans on 10 June 1990. Perignon himself died eight days later in Deauville in Normandy, France on 18 June 1990 at the age of 110 years, 247 days. His death left James Wiggins, who was just a day younger than Perignon, the new titleholder.
