Biography
Henry D. Hannah was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on 13 March 1868 as the oldest child to John and Frances Hannah. He was left permanently deafened after surviving a bout of scarlet fever as a young child, but his hearing improved after receiving a battery-powered hearing aid in 1935, which he later said was the "greatest thing that ever happened" to him. The family moved to New York when Henry was a young child and remained there before returning to New Jersey in the early 1900's. Henry moved to Mansfield, Connecticut in 1918 to work as a storehouse supervisor. He married twice but did not have any children.
Henry Hannah died in Mansfield, Connecticut on 7 May 1978 at the age of 110 years, 55 days. He is the second-oldest known man ever who died in the US state of Connecticut, behind Salvatore Fiore.
