Henry Orville Taylor (28 September 1907 – 15 April 2018) was an American supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). He may have been the oldest living man in Michigan at the time of his death.

Biography[]

Henry Taylor was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA on 28 September 1907 as the fifth of 12 children born to parents Harry Wadsworth Taylor and Stella Pearl (née Ambler) Taylor. His family moved to South Bend in 1910. In 1928, he married his first wife, Helen Ollmann, and had two children with her: Eugene and Janice (who later married Kenneth Jones). Eugene died aged three months in 1934 from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Taylor worked in the Circulation Department for the South Bend Tribune until 1969, when he retired. His wife died in 1978 after 50 years of marriage. In 1983, Taylor married Mildred Roberts, who had already been married twice. They were married for seven years until Mildred’s death in 1990 aged 86. In 1998, he moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan. His daughter Janice died in 2009 aged 70.

There was also a history of longevity in his family: his father lived to be 93, his sister Sylvia Lurena Miltenberger (1898–1993) lived to be 95, his sister Mabel Elnora Wise (1902–2004) lived to be 101, his nephew Ernest George Wise (1920–2012) lived to be 92, his cousin Anna Blanche Langston (1898–1990) lived to be 91, his cousin Melvin Horn (1902–1996) lived to be 93, his cousin Amanda Jane Harter (1904–2006) lived to be 101 and his cousin Alice Roselle Esterline Linton (1905–2000) lived to be 95.

Taylor himself died on 15 April 2018 at the age of 110 years, 199 days. He was survived by his grandchildren Kevin, Karen and Brian, and great-grandchildren Keith and Scott, as well as his stepson Evan Farmer.
