Herman W. Phillips (28 September 1896 – 7 June 2006) was an American coal miner and farmer who lived to the remarkable age of 109.
Biography[]
Born in Powhatan Point, Ohio, he was the son of Erv and Bell (Gordon) Phillips. On 2 September 1918, he married Iva May (Adams) in Belmont County, Ohio; she predeceased him.
Phillips's career spanned work as a coal miner and a farmer, reflecting the industrious spirit of his generation. He was a devoted family man, survived by his children: daughters Helen Rohrbaugh and Wilma Morris, both of Louisville, and Bette Hill of North Canton; and son Starling Phillips of East Canton. His legacy includes ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva May, and a son, Harold.
Phillips passed away on 7 June 2006, at the McKinley Health Care Center following a brief illness. Funeral services were held on 10 June 2006, at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville, officiated by Rev. Donald Moss, with interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery in Hartville.
