Hertha Elisabeth Akerlind [Swedish: Åkerlind] (née Schillander; 28 April 1908 – 10 July 2018) was a Swedish supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of death, she was the oldest living woman and the second-oldest living person in Sweden, behind Carl Mattsson.

Biography[]

Hertha Elisabeth Schillander was born on 28 April 1908 as one of three daughters of Bernhard and Jenny Schillander. She lived in Stockholm since she was a young girl and participated in various cultural activities, like going to the national theater. When she was 28, she met the man who later became her husband. They built a house in one of the southern suburbs of Stockholm where their two daughters, Kerstin and Gunilla, were born and raised. She worked at Sveriges Riksbank (the equivalent to the US Federal Reserve) until she retired.

Hertha lived in that house until she was 101 years old. After that she moved in to a nursing home where she spent the rest of her life.

After the death of Nanny Halvardsson on 26 May 2017, Akerlind became the oldest Stockholm resident. After the death of Alice Ostlund on 28 March 2018, she became the oldest woman alive in Sweden.

On 28 April 2018, Akerlind turned 110.

Hertha Akerlind died in Stockholm, Sweden on 10 July 2018 at the age of 110 years, 73 days. At the time, her family consisted of five generations (she had great-great-grandchildren). Her funeral was held on 14 August 2018.
