Hildebrando Ibanez Reynaga (10 July 1908 – 12 September 2019) was a Peruvian supercentenarian whose age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Ibanez Reynaga was born in the district of San Jeronimo, Andahuaylas, Apurimac, Peru, on 10 July 1908. He was the third of nine children of Leandro Ibanez Altamirano and Ines Reynaga Ascue. He attended the "Primary School for Men" (today known as "Escuela 55005") in Andahuaylas, Apurimac, after which he went to a secondary school of Miguel Grau de Abancay. At the age of 21, he was elected as the Mayor of the San Jeronimo district. He also served as a Governor and Judge in different provinces of the Apurimac Department. He married a woman with the surname Franco and had 15 children. In the province of Andahuaylas, he was one of the best known breeders of fighting roosters, a hobby for which he was awarded in a lot of championships. Likewise, he was known for good horses and dogs that he owned.

Ibanez Reynaga was mentioned in the books of a Peruvian writer, Carmen Pinilla, who in her books calls him “El Patriarca Jeronimiano” ("Jeronimian Patriarch"). He lived in Lima for many years. He voted in national, regional and municipal elections until the age of 103.

Ibanez Reynaga died in Lima, Peru on 12 September 2019 at the age of 111 years, 64 days. At the time of his death, he had 51 grandchildren and more than 41 great-grandchildren.
