Hildegard Henke (née Stryczek ; 4 November 1905 – 27 September 2016) was a German supercentenarian who was at the age of 110 years, 328 days, the second-oldest living person (and the oldest living woman) in Germany. Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2022.
Biography[]
Hildegard Henke was born as a daughter of a railway official in Uerdingen, Prussia (Rhine Province), Germany on 4 November 1905. She spent her youth in Koln and moved to Kaltenherberg after she had married Mr. Henke in 1936. The couple had two sons. She widowed in 1978 and continued to live on her own until March 2009, when she moved to a nursing home in Monschau.
On her 110th birthday, she was reported to have one living son, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She attributed her longevity to healthy lifestyle, little amont of alcohol and hiking as favourite physical activity. She had quite good memories of her childhood. For example, she recalled owning nine dolls and doll’s kitchen, and seeing Wilhelm II, German Emperor in Koln in 1918. Reportedly, at age 110 she still had a sharp mind and was interested in her great-grandchildren's affairs.
Hildegard Henke died in Monschau, North Rhine Westphalia, Germany on 27 September 2016 at the age of 110 years, 328 days.
