Horace Wilson "Moe" Baumer (17 December 1913 – 30 December 2023) was an American supercentenarian who was the oldest living man in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, the second-oldest known living man in the United States, behind Francis Zouein, and the oldest known living man born in the United States at the time of his death. His age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Horace Wilson Baumer was born in Minersville, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania, USA on 17 December 1913 to Clifford and Ruth Baumer. His father Clifford Baumer (born 17 July 1891) died on 9 October 1918 from the Spanish flu. His mother Ruth Baumer Williams (born 9 August 1891) died from tuberculosis a few years later on 27 April 1923, so he was raised by his paternal grandmother Anna Eliza Baumer. In 1930 at the age of 16, Horace lived as a boarder with the Davis family at 2049 East Letterly Street. He learned to be a machinist and among other things he worked as a machinist at Bethelhem Steel's Grace for 25 years until retirement.

On 23 June 1940, he married Genevieve Virginia Petchkofski (11 January 1917 – 30 March 2002) and had 4 kids but none of them lived longer than a few days due to a blood deficiency.

On 16 October 1940, he drafted for world war II at the age of 26, but due to his occupation he was never called up, Charles R Felsburg was his boss (employer) at the time, he registered in Minersville, Pennsylvania, which is where he was born.

Horace's wife Genevieve died on 30 March 2002 at the age of 85 of Natural Causes.

In December 2013, he celebrated his 100th birthday and became a centenarian. In July 2022, he had a fall and after being in the hospital for two months moved into a nursing home.

In December 2023, he celebrated his 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

He became the oldest known living American-born man, following the death of 110-year-old Otis Randall on 24 December 2023.

Horace Baumer died in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, USA on 30 December 2023 at the age of 110 years, 13 days. He was the second-oldest oldest known man ever from Pennsylvania, behind Clarence Glauner. Horace was nicknamed "Moe" and "Mo". His successor as oldest living man in Pennsylvania was 108-year-old King Kriksa of Moon Township.
