Hyacinth Mottley (13 May 1914 – 5 July 2021) was a Barbadian-born Antiguan centenarian who was the oldest known living person of Antigua and Barbuda at time of her death.
Biography[]
Hyacinth Mottley was born in Barbados on 13 May 1914. Around 1945, she moved to Antigua. In her early years, she worked as a helper in many prominent households. She had one son: Dr Marcus Mottley.
In the mid-1950’s, she decided to leave domestic work behind and work for herself. She began by selling trinkets and other goods out of a suitcase.
In her late 90s, Mottley published a book called ‘Words of Wisdom, Words of Faith” which chronicled her life’s experiences.
Hyacinth Mottley died in Briggins, Antigua, Antigua and Barbuda on 5 July 2021 at the age of 107 years, 53 days.
