Ian Chirnside (9 February 1908 – 21 September 2014) was a New Zealand centenarian who was the oldest living man in New Zealand following the death of Harry Duncan Andrews.
Biography[]
Chirnside was born in 1908 to a family of 10, the sixth of eight children. Chirnside started working at the University of Otago in 1922 at 14 years old as a technical assistant at the dental school. His brother Alan graduated from dentistry in 1938, and Ian graduated in 1940. Chirnside worked with the Dental Corps in World War II. Chirnside retired in the early 1970s.
