Ida Belle Austin (née Dawson; 21 December 1912 – 10 June 2023) was an American supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Ida Belle Austin was born in Mount Pleasant, Maury County, Tennessee, USA on 21 December 1912 to Walter Ed and Minnie Dawson. In 1930, she was living in Detroit, Michigan, with her uncle and aunt, Aaron and Ida Shaw. She married Richard Austin in August 1939. They had one daughter, Hazel, born in 1944. Her husband died in 2001.
In December 2022, Austin celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian. For the occasion of her 110th birthday, she received a tribute and was visited by Abdullah Hammoud, the mayor of Dearborn, Michigan.
Austin died on 10 June 2023, at the age of 110 years, 181 days. At the time of her death, she was the third-oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Michigan, after Bonita Gibson and Louise Burkhalter.
