Ida Ortolani (4 October 1912 - 14 June 2024) was an American-Italian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Ortolani was born on 4 October 1912 (claims 4 September) in Abington, Pennsylvania, USA. Her parents were Italian immigrants who were both originally from Pescara, Italy.

When Ortolani was 12 years old, her parents moved back to Pescara, bringing her along with them. While there, she ran a tailor’s shop with 20 workers.

Later Life[]

Ortolani ran her tailor’s shop until she retired at the age of 77. After her retirement, she moved to Lombardy, where she has resided ever since.

In October 2022, Ortolani celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

Ortolani died on 14 June 2024 in San Donato Milanese, Milan, Lombardy Region, Italy, at the age of 111 years, 254 days (claims 111 years, 284 days).

Longevity[]

At the time of her death, Ortolani was the oldest known living person in Lombardy, the oldest known living non-Italian-born person residing in Italy, the oldest known living person born in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, and the second-oldest known living emigrant from the United States (behind Maria Branyas Morera). She was also believed to be among the 15 oldest known living residents in Italy.
