Ilda da Silva (born 16 April 1913) is a Portuguese supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2024. She is currently the second-oldest known living person in Portugal, behind Maria da Conceição Brito.

Biography[]

Ilda da Silva was born in Alvor, Portimão, Algarve, Portugal, to parents José Lourinho da Silva and Joaquina Maria. Her father was a fisherman and her mother was a domestic worker. In 1936, she married Joaquim Paulo da Silva, whom she had five children with; three sons, one of whom is now deceased, and two daughters. The couple later moved to the Lisbon region.

She worked as a seamstess at the fashion boutique Migacho in downtown Lisbon. Her husband was a merchant. She was widowed in 1982 after 46 years of marriage. The couple had five children; three sons, one of whom is now deceased, and two daughters. She has eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

At the age of 94, she moved in with her youngest daughter, Maria de Deus Carrilho. At the age of 106, she suffered a fall which caused a fracture in the neck of her femur, requiring surgery. Following this, she moved into the Casa de Repouso de Porto Salvo in Oeiras, where she lives today.

Ilda de Silva currently lives in Oeiras, Lisbon District, Portugal, at the age of 111 years, 233 days.
