Irene Lafrance (née Gagne; 13 April 1912 – 3 April 2022) was a Canadian centenarian.
Biography[]
Irene Lafrance was born in Lafond, Alberta, Canada, on 13 April 1912 to Odillon and Bertha Gagne one day before the Titanic sank.
Irene grew up on a farm her father owned in northern Alberta. She was the eldest of twelve children. Irene married Charles Lafrance on 28 October 1937. The couple had 11 children: six sons and five daughters.
In 1956, Irene and her husband moved away from the farm she was raised on to Vancouver Island. The couple permanently settled in the city of Kelowna in the 1970s. Irene retired from her career in 1986. Her husband Charles, died in 1994. Irene lived independently for another 23 years until 2017, when she moved to at the Missionwood Retirement Community.
Lafrance died in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, on 3 April 2022 at the age of 109 years, 355 days, 10 days before her 110th birthday. At the time of her death, she was the fifth-oldest known living person in British Columbia, behind Shige Mineshiba, Mabel Mah, Reuben Sinclair, and Merle O'Hara.
