Biography[]

Irene Lantz was born on 2 March 1914 in Wroxton, Saskatchewan, Canada, to parents Fred and Katie (née Buchinski) Perpeluk. She married Carl "Mickey" North in August 1936 and had one son named Morley (1938-1997).

She spent some time living in Calgary and moved to Edmonton in the 1950s, where she has resided since. Her first husband died in 1984. She later met her second husband Tony Lantz through dancing and they married on 19 January 2002.

Lantz loved fishing and growing her own fruits and vegetables. She squeezed her own fresh juice from the garden and was famous for her apple wine; however, she was never a big drinker. Her family described her as "a kind, non-judgmental person who finds joy in every moment."

She lived at home until she was 104, when she moved into the Canterbury Foundation care home. On 2 March 2024, she turned 110, becoming a supercentenarian. At the age of 110, she could still walk and remained active and independent.

Lantz died in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on 24 October 2025 at the age of 111 years, 236 days. At the time of her death, she was the second-oldest known living person in Canada after Margaret Romans, who survived her by one day.
