Irenise Moulonguet [French: Irénise] (née Lermain; 6 November 1900 – 28 May 2013) was a French supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She lived in the French overseas territory of Martinique. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in France.
Biography
Irenise Moulonguet was born in Basse-Pointe, Martinique, France on 6 November 1900. She was a survivor of the 1902 eruption of Mount Pelee. At the age of 15, she moved to French Guiana to work.
In 1929, she came back in Martinique, where she married Andre Moulonguet [French: André] and had three daughters with him. Andre died at a young age, so Moulonguet had to raise her daughters alone, and began to work on banana plantations. At the age of 74, Moulonguet became a Jehovah's Witness.
Following the death of Paule Bronzini on 29 August 2012, Moulonguet became the oldest living person in France. Previously, Maria Richard and Eugenie Dauzat were thought to have hold that title, but Moulonguet was older than both of them.
Moulonguet's age was verified by Laurent Toussaint and Cyril Depoudent, and validated by the GRG on 29 January 2013.
Irenise Moulonguet died in Le Morne-Rouge, Martinique, France on 28 May 2013, at the age of 112 years, 203 days. She was the last known surviving French person born in 1900.
