Istvanne Fejes (née Erzsebet Soltesz) [Hungarian: Fejes Istvánné Soltész Erzsébet] (15 February 1911 – 17 December 2022) was a Romanian-born Hungarian supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2021.
Biography[]
Istvanne Fejes was born in Nagybanya, Austria-Hungary (present-day Baia Mare, Romania) on 15 February 1911. Her parents were Elemer Soltesz (1874–1957), a bishop and fellow in protestant Theology, and Rosa Zsigmond (1877–?). She had four siblings: Elemer (1901–1920) Judit (1902–?), Marta (1904–?), and Janos (1916–?). They moved to Budapest in 1923.
She studied music and became a pianist. She worked as a piano teacher for decades and toured in Matra into the 60s.
She married Istvan Fejes around 1947 and changed her name. They had at least two daughters.
At the age of 85, she traveled to the United States, where her daughter researched, for some weeks with her grandchild.
In her later life, she moved to Szeged, where her daughter and son-in-law lived. She spent some time going to church, going to the hairdresser, and eating ice cream.
In February 2021, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian. Following the death of 113-year-old Veronika Zsilinszki on 20 April 2021, she became the oldest known living person in Hungary.
Istvanne Fejes died in Szeged, Csongrad-Csanad County, Hungary on 17 December 2022 at the age 111 years, 305 days.
