Iva Laura Shumate (née Queen; 4 November 1887 – 11 June 1999) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Iva Shumate was born as Iva Laura Queen in Jackson, North Carolina, USA on 4 November 1887 as the daughter of Ellis and Amie Ensley Queen. She grew up in Black Mountain, Buncombe, North Carolina and married twice. The first time she married to Lewis A. Daugherty and had a daughter named Mae Beverly Daugherty Goolsby (10 November 1906-28 December 2003) . In 1917 Lewis died aged 32[1]. Iva then married Charles William Shumate but had no additional children. She was widowed in 1962.
Iva Shumate died in Black Mountain, Buncombe, North Carolina, USA on 11 June 1999 at the age of 111 years, 219 days.
