Ivan Likavec (7 July 1906 – 7 July 2012) was a Slovenian centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Slovenia at the time of his death.
Biography[]
Ivan Likavec was born in the municipality of Ormoz, Austria-Hungary (present-day Slovenia) on 7 July 1906. He spent his childhood in Pesnica near Maribor, where his father had a shop and an inn. In 1921 he went to study with his uncle in a shop, he was employed as a merchant, but during the Second World War he was interned in the Dachau concentration camp. After his release, he got a job at the Ormoz Agricultural Combine. He and his wife Miro were happily married for 58 years. He liked to tell funny jokes and he remembered all the events of his long life well. His wife was deceased by August 2011.
Likavec died in Ormoz, Slovenia, on his 106th birthday, on 7 July 2012.
