James Jacob(s) Alexander Turner (16 April 1914 – 23 June 2019) was an Antiguan centenarian who was the oldest known living man and person in Antigua and Barbuda at the time of his death.
Biography
Jacob Turner was born in Antigua on 16 April 1914. In his youth, Turner was a farmer. He started to cut sugarcane since he was about 16 years old. He later became a fisherman. He married Ellen Turner and the couple had three children, two sons and a daughter (including Eileen and George Turner). His wife died in 1960 at the age of 39 and Jacob raised his children with the help of his family. He retired when he was 99 years old.
Even at the age of 104, he had good eyesight and hearing. He was not afflicted by any disease neither was on medication for any ailments.
Turner died in Seatons, Glanvilles Village on Antigua, on 23 June 2019 at the age of 105 years, 68 days. After his death, Hyacinth Mottley became the oldest living person in Antigua and Barbuda, and Raymond James Hughes became the oldest living man in Antigua and Barbuda.
