Jacob Koppel Bier (5 January 1821 – 5 April 1930) was a Polish-born American centenarian.
Biography[]
Jacob Bier was born on 5 January 1821 in Podkarpackie Voivodeship, Poland. His parents were Judah Bier and unknown mother. He married Ethel Kanner (1849–1934) and had 13 children, 40 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. On his 104th birthday he was invited to visit president Coolidge at Washington, United States. This interview was short but long enough for Jacob Bier to assure the president 147 votes from the Bier family. In his last days Bier would sit and smoke his pipe and his greatest delight was to repeat word for word what president Coolidge said to him and what he said to president Coolidge in return.
Jacob Bier died on 5 April 1930 in Hoboken, Hudson County, New Jersey, United States from burns caused by his pipe-smoking when he set his beard afire at the age of 109 years, 90 days. He attributed his longevity to the fact that for 91 years his glass of schnapps and his pipe were as consistently part of his diet as the kosher meat he ate every day from his own butcher shop.
