James Harold Shimer (9 July 1914 – 26 June 2015) was an American Centenarian and the brother of Ethel Boltz. James was born on 9 July 1914 in Annamoriah, Calhoun County, West Virginia to the late Sherman Smith Shimer and Mary Katherine Hayes. He was one of eight children, six of which are deceased; Howard, Harvey, Myrtle, Minnie, Earnest, and Earl. Older siblings- Ethel Boltz (age 111), and Evelyn Bowman (age 96). James married Valetta Peppers (1917-1998) on May 31, 1935, together they had 2 children, Janis (1935-2000) and Richard (1938) whom is still alive.

James was drafted for World War 2 on October 16 1940 when he was a father. He managed to survive at war. After Valetta's death in 1998, James married Betty Smith (1931-2016) in an unknown date. Together they had no children. During his 100 years of life, James has seen many things, ranging from using horse and buggy as a child to the Wright brothers to seeing men on the moon. He loved living in California and West Virginia, besides Ohio, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, working with leather and playing his guitar.

James moved to Summit County, Ohio in the very early 2000s, which is where he died on 26 June 2015 at the age of 100 years, 351 days. He was a kind and gentle person and will be greatly missed by his family.
