Jan Willem van de Kamp (17 May 1910 – 31 May 2017) was a Dutch centenarian who was the oldest known living man in the Netherlands at the time of his death.
Biography
Jan Willem van de Kamp was born on a farm in Oldebroek, Gelderland, The Netherlands. In 1938, Jan married Kornelisje van der Streek and had four children with her, all sons, one of whom, Kees, was still alive as of Jan’s 107th birthday aged 71. Jan was a farmer until 1974, when he retired at the age of 63.
Van de Kamp’s wife died in 1992 aged 84. His oldest son died in 2008. Jan himself moved into a nursing home in 2003, and moved into the new area of the same nursing home in 2010, aged 100. In 2014, he became very ill and never walked again. On 20 December 2016, aged 106, he became the oldest living man in The Netherlands, following the death of 106-year-old Dirk F. F. van der Noen, who was ten days older.
As of his 107th birthday in 2017, as well as his four sons, he had twelve grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In his centenarian years, he drank a cup a coffee and ate a boiled egg every day.
Jan Willem van de Kamp died on 31 May 2017 in Oldebroek, Gelderland, The Netherlands, at the age of 107 years, 14 days. His successor as the oldest living man in The Netherlands is Eelke Bakker (born 28 July 1910).
