Biography

Webster was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom on 17 April 1906, one of six children born to William and Sarah Hill. Her father worked as a riveter at Harland and Wolfe, and worked on the Titanic. Both of her parents died when she was young. After WWI, she contracted Spanish Flu, but survived despite being in bed for weeks and losing all her hair. As a young woman, she worked in the linen mills and was left to look after her family after her parents' deaths.

Webster met her husband, Walter, while he was on a cycling tour of Northern Ireland. The couple moved to Aberdeen, Walter's home town, where they married in the 1930s. They had one daughter, Maureen, who was born in 1938. During WWII, their house was bombed and the family became trapped in the rubble. They later moved to London. Walter died in a motorcycle accident in 1973.

Webster moved to Mill End in the early 2000s after living on her own until she was aged 95. She died in Henley-on Thames, England on 31 October 2017 at the age of 111 years, 197 days.
