Jean Joseph Touzot (18 September 1908 – 1 December 2017) was a French centenarian who currently is the second-oldest man ever born in present-day Algeria, behind Emile Fourcade.

Biography[]

Jean Touzot was born in Boufarik, French Algeria on 18 September 1908. He married and had two children. He was widowed in 1998.

In the 1930s, he moved to Toulouse, France, where he graduated as a sub-engineer at the electrotechnical institute. Later, he moved to Carmaux, Tarn to work as an underground miner.

He worked as an electrical mechanic until experienced health problems that forced him to work in the drawing office, and most of his professional career was spent in the mine, where he remained for 30 years.

He was a recognized amateur radio operator for more than 50 years. At the age of 104, he was reported as the oldest amateur radio operator in France. On his 105 birthday in 2013, he retired from his work as radio amateur operator.

As of September 2016, he had two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Touzot died in Albi, Tarn, Occitanie, France on 1 December 2017 at the age of 109 years, 74 days. At the time of his death, was the third-oldest known living man in France, behind Roger Auvin and Michel Chevallier.
