In 1914 (aged 1), she was evacuated with her grandmother in Merlebach, Moselle because of World War I. After the war ended, she joined her parents in La Bresse, Vosges where they took refuge.

In 1924, Motsch's parents bought a farm in Thiefosse. She worked there until she married Robert on 6 May 1942. She worked with her husband in his grocery-bakery in Bellefontaine.

After her husband died of illness in 1971, Motsch kept on doing bread rounds in the village until her J7 (a truck) broke down in 1973. After that, she still managed her grocery with bread delivery until she retired in 1991. She gardened until the age of 100. She played belote at the rural seniors club until the age of 105.

Motsch lived with her daughter Jacqueline in Bellefontaine until the age of 108. On 26 October 2021, they moved together to the nursing home Le Clos des Écureuils in Plombieres-les-Bains. On her 108th and 109th birthdays, she received the visit of deputee Christophe Naegelen.

Following the death of 110-year-old Paulette Gippini on 6 October 2023, Motsch became the oldest known living person in Grand Est.

Jeanne Motsch died in Plombieres-les-Bains, Vosges, Grand Est, France in 13 December 2023, at the age of 110 years, 54 days. She was the oldest known living person in Grand Est and in Vosges department.
