Biography[]
Mime Westcott was born in Lauder, Manitoba, Canada, on 10 January 1911 as the sixth of eleven children. She lived on a farm and lived a simple life while growing up. When she was seven years old, the Spanish Flu hit Canada, but Westcott recalled that there was no such thing as social distancing back then and schools remained open.
Later in her life, Westcott started working as a teacher. She married Reginald Westcott at the Casselman farm in Lauder on 11 November 1936. The couple had five children. Reginald died in 1963. Westcott lived on her own until she was 106, when she moved to Dinsdale Personal Care Home. At the time of her 110th birthday in 2021, she had 15 grandchildren and had outlived two of her daughters.
Longevity was present in Westcott’s family - two of her sisters, who were also teachers, reached an advanced age as well, reaching the ages of 105 and 107. Furthermore, Westcott was part of a longevity study at Boston University as she and her siblings were followed for the last decade and she still got a yearly check-in and survey from researchers working on the study.
Westcott died in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, on 24 August 2022, at the age of 111 years, 226 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living person in Manitoba.
