Jessie Hurley (neé Stubbs; 15 June 1890 – 6 August 2002) was a validated Australian supercentenarian who was the oldest person in Australia at the time of her death.

Biography

Jessie Hurley was born in Riverstone, New South Wales, Australia, on 15 June 1890.

Hurley married James Hurley at the age of 18 and moved to Brisbane. The couple had eight children, but two of them died at a young age. When they later divorced, she moved back to Riverstone. Afterwards, she moved to Sidney, before finally setting on New South Wales Central coast about 1970.

Asked about the secret for her longveity, Hurley mentioned homecooked food, no drinking, and no smoking.

Following the death of Christina Cock on 22 May 2002, Hurley became the oldest living person in Australia.

Hurley died in Erina, New South Wales, Australia on 6 August 2002 at 12:30 AM at the age of 112 years, 52 days. Following her death, Alice Lindsay became the oldest living person in Australia.[1]
