Joao Paulo de Souza (16 June 1902 – 20 December 2012) was a Brazilian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of his death, he was the oldest known living man in Brazil.
Biography[]
Joao Paulo de Souza was born in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, on 16 June 1902. He followed in his father's footsteps by becoming a fisherman, where he would sell the fish he caught. He later became an entrepreneur.
He founded the business "Armazém Pará" in Ribeira, Natal, with his son in 1959, which would go on to become a successful retail chain throughout Brazil, specializing in home and construction appliances.
He became the oldest known living man in Brazil, following the death of 110-year-old Isidoro Jose de Almeida on 21 July 2011.
Joao Paulo de Souza died in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil on 20 December 2012 at the age of 110 years, 187 days.
João Paulo is the last validated Brazilian man to have been born during the government of President Campos Salles (1898-1902).
