If his claimed age was correct, he would have been over four years older than the oldest verified living man and older than Emma Morano, the oldest verified living person.

Joao da Rosa claimed to have been born on 24 June 1899 in Brazil.

Joao moved to a nursing facility in 1993, at the claimed age of 94. He was wheelchair-bound in his last years.

Da Rosa died on 27 March 2016 in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, at the claimed age of 116 years and 277 days.
