Johanna Maria Besseling-Levers (11 August 1909 – 14 September 2019) was a German-Dutch supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Johanna Maria Besseling-Levers was born in Zwillbrock in the municipality of Vreden, Northrine-Westphalia, Germany on 11 August 1909 as the daughter of butcher Bernhard Heinrich Levers (born 1879) and Maria Katharina. In late 1932, she married Johannes Hendrikus Besseling (born 1902) and lived in Groenlo but apparently moved to Ruurlo later in her life.
Besseling-Levers became the oldest living person in Gelderland after the death of Clara Buitenkamp - De Roos on 14 March 2015. She turned 110 years old on 11 August 2019 and became the first German person and the second emigrant in The Netherlands overall to reach this age (Jan Machiel Reyskens from Belgium turned 110 years old in 1988). She lived in Ruurlo, Gelderland, The Netherlands at the time of her death.
At the time of her 110th birthday, Besseling-Levers was the fifth-oldest living person in the Netherlands. Besseling-Levers passed away on 14 September 2019 at the age of 110 years, 34 days.
