Johanna Zandstra-Giezen (7 September 1882 – 16 September 1993) was a Dutch supercentenarian whose age is officialy validated. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in The Netherlands.
Biography
Johanna Francina Zandstra-Giezen was born in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, on 7 September 1882 to parents Jan Johannes Giezen and Maria Theodora Elisabeth Heyer, who died at the age of 101. She married Regnerus Zandstra.
Mrs. Zandstra-Giezen became the oldest person in The Netherlands after the death of 109-year-old Trijntje Jansma-Boskma on 5 March 1991. On her 111th birthday in 1993, she received a bottle of eau de cologne from mayor Ad Havermans of The Hague, but she was already bedridden.
Johanna Zandstra-Giezen died in The Hague, South Holland, Netherlands, 9 days later, on 16 September 1993, at the age of 111 years, 9 days. Following her death, Ann Flower became the oldest person in The Netherlands. She remains the oldest person ever from the province of Friesland.
