John Bergin (2 July 1911 – November 1993) was an Irish man who was thought to have been the 'oldest known living person in Ireland' at the age of '110' in 2022. Further investigation later revealed that he actually passed away in November 1993, aged 82 years, 122-151 days, and that his daughter-in-law, Margaret Bergin, had been claiming pension payments on behalf of him for almost 29 years until 2022.
Margaret Bergin had used her husband, Séamus, to pretend to be Bergin, aged 110, to claim he was still alive.
His case is an example of a ghost case where someone is 110+ and 'alive' on paper, but actually had died earlier (sometimes even earlier).
