John Gordon Farringdon (7 June 1913 – 13 August 2024) was a British supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). He was the oldest known living person in Warwickshire and the second-oldest known living man in the United Kingdom, behind John Tinniswood. He was also the last known surviving British man born in 1913, and the second-oldest known living man in Europe, behind Tinniswood.

Biography[]

John Gordon Farringdon was born in Enfield, London, England, UK on 7 June 1913 as the only son out of four children. In the late 1920s, at the age of 16, he began his first job repairing typewriters. While he initially expressed an interest in becoming a Spitfire pilot for the Royal Air Force, he later decided to work for Ford in Dagenham, Essex, before moving to the car maker’s foundry in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, in 1942, where he made tank parts for the Army during the war years. He would work for Ford for the next 40 years, and has maintained a lifelong passion for automobiles ever since. He first began driving as a teenager in the 1920s, and only stopped driving at the age of 105 - in total, he was an active driver for 88 years, and claims that he never got in an accident.

He became the last known surviving British man born in 1913 following the death of 109-year-old Joe Dixon on 19 January 2023.

In June 2023, he celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

His age was verified by GRG-UK Correspondent Oliver Trim, and validated by the GRG on 21 November 2023.

In December 2023, Farringdon met with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak whom he was a fan of.

Farringdon died on 13 August 2024 in Warwickshire at the age of 111 years, 67 days.
