John Wilhelm Tranberg (17 April 1916 – 22 August 2019) was a centenarian from US Virgin Islands. He is currently the oldest known man ever born in US Virgin Islands.
Biography[]
John Tranberg was born in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands on 17 April 1916, as one of seven children of Lauritz Tranberg and Virginia Percival Tranberg. His father was Danish and his mother was West Indian.
In 1944, Tranberg was drafted and served in the Army in Hawaii as a driver for officers during WW II.
He was married Cynthia Petersen and had four children. He worked at Sanford and Sons doing construction and concrete laying. He operated heavy equipment for Meridian Engineering.
There was also a history of longevity in his family: his father lived to be 96, his brother Emil "Milo" Tranberg lived to be 98 and his brother Otto "Chico" Tranberg lived to be 99.
John Tranberg died in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands on 22 August 2019 at the age of 103 years, 125 days. He was survived by two sons John Tranberg Jr. and Carl Tranberg, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews and cousins.
