Johnson Parks (15 October 1884?/25 October 1895 – 17 July 1998) was an American supercentenarian claimant whose age claim has been debunked by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Johnson Parks was allegedly born in Georgia on 25 October 1884 (orginally claimed 15 October 1884). He moved to Central Florida from Georgia in 1961. He was a farm labourer.
Following the passing of Christian Mortensen on 25 April 1998, Parks would have become the world’s oldest living man, holding the title for nearly three months until his own death, after which Walter Richardson succeeded him. Parks would have also been the oldest man ever to die in Florida.
Parks died in Mount Dora, Florida, USA on 17 July 1998.
Debunking[]
If his age was accurate, he would have been 113 years, 275 days old at the time of his death. His age was verified by the Kestenbaum study and recognized by the GRG in 2002, however, 20 years later GRG debunked his claim and that the birthdate used for validation belonged to a different Johnson Parks. An ancestry family tree listed Parks as being born in 1895 and having died in 1998. Based on this evidence, it's more likely Parks was 102 at the time of his death.
