Jose Rodrigues Avelino (5 January 1905 – 1 October 2016) was a Brazilian supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Jose Rodrigues Avelino was born on 5 January 1905, in the municipality of Independência, Ceara, Brazil. He was known as Ze Black. He lived in his homeland until 1969, when he moved to Tauá and stayed in Merejo do Angico, Carrapateiras district. He was married with Joaquina Dias da Silva, who died in April 2002. They had nine children (eight men and one woman). They had 40 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren. The Guinness Book, an international organization that consults to classify centenary people, is awaiting the submission of records to prove the age of Zé Preto to join the Guinness World Records. One of the working group coordinators for the "Gerontology Research Group" is the lead consultant for Guinness World Records. The group can now locate people aged 110 or older in Brazil. "Jose Rodrigues Avelino is a likely candidate to be a super centenary, according to our recent polls," said one of the team's coordinators, Ricardo Pereira Lago. "He may have been the second oldest living person in Brazil and the oldest man" at the time of his death.

Jose Rodrigues Avelino died in Taua, Ceara, Brazil on 1 October 2016 at the claimed age of 111 years and 270 days.
