Josef Flandera (21 June 1902 – 6 March 2010) was a Czech centenarian who was the oldest known living man and person in the Czech Republic at the time of his death.
Biography[]
Josef Flandera was born in the region of Volhynia, which is currently part of Northwestern Ukraine, (then Russian Empire) on 21 June 1902. During World War II, he served in the Czechoslovak army on the Eastern Front. In 1947 he settled in Sumperk [Czech: Šumperk], Olomouc Region, where he remained for the rest of his life.
He became the oldest living person in the Czech Republic, following the death of 108-year-old Marta Pokorna on 30 December 2008.
Josef Flandera died in Hanusovice, Sumperk, Olomouc Region, Czech Republic on 6 March 2010 at the age of 107 years, 258 days. He is also the oldest known man ever to have died in the Czech Republic.
