Josefina Villaverde Fontenla (19 November 1909 – 7 November 2020) was a Spanish supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2023.
Biography[]
Villaverde Fontenla was born in Cuntis, Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain, on 19 November 1909. Her parents were Jose Villaverde Lafuente and Marcelina Fontenla Romero. Her father died at the age of 40. She had 6 siblings: Severino, Daniel, Jose, Manuel, Ramona and Mercedes. All of her relatives eventually moved out of the county, some of them settled in Argentina. From a very young age she started milking the cows and then selling the milk. She never worked on other people's land.
In September 2016, she had 3 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She celebrated her 110th birthday in November 2019. On her birthday, she was visited by the Mayor of Cuntis, Manuel Campos Velay.
Villaverde Fontenla died in Laxos, Cuntis, Galicia, Spain on 4 November 2020 at the age of 110 years, 354 days.
