Josephine Melecio (26 March 1911 – 20 August 2021) was a Puerto Rican-American supercentenarian who was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2023.
Biography[]
Josephine Melecio was born in Puerto Rico on 26 March 1911. She moved to New York City as a young woman. She married and had at least one daughter: Shirley Koehler.
She worked in a factory manufacturing designer shoes and handbags. She later worked at a Queens nursing home until retiring in her 90s.
In March 2021, she celebrated her 110th birthday. At age 110, she was still able to walk with help.
Josephine Melecio lived with her daughter Shirley Koehler (aged 86 in March 2021) at her home in Upper West Side neighborhood, New York City, New York State, USA until her death on 20 August 2021 at the age of 110 years, 147 days.
