Josephine "Josie" Alma Hinds (née Walker; 6 October 1873 – 30 March 1984) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography
Josie Hinds was born as Josie Walker on 6 October 1873 in Pleasantville Prairie, Wisconsin, but lived in Nebraska most of her life. In 1894, she graduated from Odell High School and attended its 85th anniversary in 1976. Hinds was recognized as the oldest surviving graduate. Her husband was Charles N. Hinds. It was mentioned on her 103rd (in 1976) and 104th birthdays (in 1977) that she enjoyed playing the organ & piano, attending Bible study, playing cards, reading, watching sports on television and quilting.
Members of her family had also experienced longevity: her brother Joel Aaron Walker (1885–1976) lived to be 90/91, her daughter Lula Alma Hiatt (1898–1988) lived to be 90, and her daughter Hazel Bowden (1901–2002) lived to be 100/101.
Hinds died in Arapahoe, Nebraska, USA on 30 March 1984, at the age of 110 years, 176 days.
