Biography[]

Manolic was born in Kalinovac, Croatia on 22 March 1920.

During World War II, he was an important Yugoslav resistance fighter. Later, he served as a senior official of the Yugoslav State Security Administration (OZNA or UDBA). From August 24, 1990 to July 17, 1991, Manolic was the Prime Minister of Croatia. Croatia formally declared its independence from Yugoslavia on 25 June 1991 during his term of office. After his short term as prime minister, from 1993 to 1994 he was the first president of the Chamber of Counties, the upper house of the Croatian parliament.

Personal life[]

In 1945 Manolic married his first wife, Marija Eker (1921–2003). On 30 April 2016, Manolic married his second wife, Mirjana Ribaric (1956–2020), who was 36 years his junior. Manolic was the oldest living former Croatian Prime Minister and the longest-lived person to ever hold the office. Due to his advanced age, he gained fame on social media as well as in the press. He turned out to be one of the oldest holders of a valid driver's license in Croatia. On 22 March 2020, he celebrated his centenary.

In April 2021, during a global pandemic of the disease, Manolic contracted COVID-19. Despite initially showing signs of mild pneumonia, he was not hospitalized, and he ultimately made a recovery within a little over two weeks.
