Ellen Joyce Coates (27 October 1910 – 29 April 2021) was a British supercentenarian whose age was validated by Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2020.
Biography[]
Coates was born in Stonehouse, Stroud District, Gloucestershire, England, UK, on 27 October 1910. She had one sibling. Her father owned a cobblers shop and made and mended shoes for a living. She married Len, a farmer in Stonehouse, and the couple bought their own house, next door to Joyce’s parents home. The couple never had children. She has never been abroad, instead preferring Torquay (Devon, England) as her favourite holiday destination.
Her husband died in the late 1980s. In June 2008, Joyce moved to the Regency Retirement Home in Regent Street, Stonehouse. She claims the secret to her long life are her genes.
Coates died in Stroud, Gloucestershire, England, UK on 29 April 2021 at the age of 110 years, 184 days.
